Moonfrost System Requirements

Read the official Moonfrost Windows minimum requirements, understand what they do not promise, and prepare a clean PC or Steam Deck baseline.

Moonfrost’s official Steam minimum requirements for the Early Access base game are Windows 11, a 2 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, graphics hardware with 3 GB of video memory, DirectX 10, and 2 GB of available storage. Steam does not currently publish a recommended hardware profile, target resolution, target frame rate, named processor, or named graphics card for AppID 2561630.

Official minimum specification

Component
Steam minimum
How to use it
Operating system
Windows 11
This is the current base-game listing; do not replace it with an older Demo's Windows 10 wording.
Processor
2 GHz
Clock speed alone does not predict performance; Steam gives no architecture or model example.
Memory
8 GB RAM
Close heavy background applications when testing a machine near the minimum.
Graphics
3 GB video memory
VRAM capacity is only one part of GPU capability; no named card or performance target is supplied.
API
DirectX 10
Keep a current vendor driver and let the game use its default renderer before adding launch options.
Storage
2 GB available
Leave extra room for Steam downloads, patch staging, saves, screenshots, and future Early Access growth.

The storage number is an available-space requirement, not a promise that every future patch will fit inside the same footprint. Early Access content can grow. Steam may also need temporary working space while applying an update.

What the minimum does not guarantee

A minimum listing means the developer currently accepts that baseline for running the game. It does not establish a stable frame rate, resolution, quality preset, loading time, or performance in the busiest village, weather, lighting, Temple, or Build Mode scene. The generic “2 GHz” and “3 GB video memory” entries are not enough to compare two machines by themselves.

If your PC is close to the minimum, test at the default or a conservative resolution and settings. Record the area and activity before judging performance. A farm scene, large decorated home, village restoration, rain, dynamic lighting, and Temple encounter can stress different parts of the system.

Before install

Confirm Windows 11, 8 GB RAM, a compatible GPU with at least 3 GB VRAM, DirectX support, and free disk space.

Before first launch

Update Windows and the graphics driver, restart Steam, and remove unneeded custom launch options.

First performance test

Use defaults, note resolution and area, then change one setting at a time.

Before reporting

Capture hardware, driver, settings, exact symptom, location, and repeatable steps.

Windows, macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck

Windows is the only native operating system listed on Steam. The store does not list a native macOS version or a native Linux build. An old FAQ says the team was focusing on Windows; future interest is not a current support commitment.

Steam Deck is marked Playable, not Verified. Deck uses SteamOS and Proton for this Windows game. Valve’s compatibility detail can include small-text and input caveats, including situations that may need touch input, the virtual keyboard, or a community layout. That rating confirms a compatible path, not a guaranteed quality preset or frame-rate target.

Do not describe a successful Proton session as native Linux support. When sharing Deck results, record model, SteamOS, Proton, resolution, cap, power settings, current build date, and the tested area.

Prepare enough storage and a stable baseline

Leave more than the listed 2 GB free. Steam can reserve temporary patch space, and saves, screenshots, shader or compatibility data, and later content use additional storage outside or beside the install. If an update fails for disk space, clear unrelated files through normal operating-system and Steam tools rather than deleting unknown Moonfrost data.

Use Steam’s file verification for damaged or missing install files. Avoid copying DLLs or configuration from another title. If a launch problem follows a driver or game update, record the date and exact error before reinstalling; that information separates a reproducible regression from a corrupted local install.

Open system information and the GPU control panel to record CPU model, RAM, GPU model, and VRAM. Compare the operating system, memory, VRAM, DirectX, and disk fields directly. For the processor and GPU, there is no official model-to-model recommendation, so rely on actual testing or a clearly scoped current report from matching hardware rather than converting “2 GHz” into a universal performance chart.

When performance is poor, reduce resolution or one graphics setting and retest the same scene. Close browser tabs and memory-heavy background software on an 8 GB system. Avoid changing resolution, frame cap, driver overrides, Proton version, and several in-game settings in one attempt; you need to know which change affected the result.
