Moonfrost’s Steam base game is a Windows Early Access title with Steam Cloud, Full Controller Support, and a Steam Deck Playable rating. The store does not list a native macOS or Linux build. Deck use belongs to SteamOS and Proton compatibility, not native Linux support. Start troubleshooting from that verified platform boundary before applying a fix from the old Demo, another operating system, or a different game.

The official minimum requirements for AppID 2561630 are modest on paper: Windows 11, a 2 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, graphics hardware with 3 GB video memory, DirectX 10, and 2 GB available storage. Steam currently shows no official recommended profile, target frame rate, or named CPU/GPU examples. The requirements page tells you whether the listed floor is met; it does not predict performance at a chosen resolution.

Verify the product and platform first

Base game

Moonfrost AppID 2561630, released into Early Access on October 12, 2026.

Steam identity

Native desktop

The store lists Windows and gives Windows 11 as the minimum OS. macOS and native Linux are not listed.

Store platform scope

Steam Deck

Valve marks the game Playable rather than Verified. SteamOS runs it through the Proton compatibility path.

Playable

Controller

Steam lists Full Controller Support and Xbox Controllers, while individual prompts or device layouts can still need adjustment.

Feature with device caveats

Cloud saves

Steam Cloud is listed. Exact local paths and conflict recovery remain account, OS, and Proton-context questions.

Feature only

Player mode

The current product is single-player. There is no verified server, co-op, cross-play, or multiplayer support scope.

Single-player

Do not use the May or older Demo requirements as the base-game answer. The audit of official sources found that the Demo previously mentioned Windows 10 while the paid base game’s current store says Windows 11. AppID and date decide which requirement belongs to the player.

Establish a clean Windows baseline

Install through Steam, allow the first launch to complete, and begin with default graphics and input settings. Confirm that Windows, the GPU driver, Steam client, and game files are in a stable state before changing several settings at once. If the game launches, create or load a safe test state, then change one display or input option and observe the result.

For a startup failure, verify game files, restart Steam, and remove only temporary launch options you added yourself. Avoid downloading replacement DLL files or copying another game’s configuration. Record the exact error text, whether a window appears, and whether the issue started after an update.

For unstable performance, note resolution, display mode, frame cap, GPU, CPU, RAM, driver, and the exact location where the slowdown occurs. Lower one expensive setting or resolution step at a time. The store’s 3 GB VRAM minimum does not mean every resolution and lighting condition will perform the same.

Interpret Steam Deck Playable correctly

Playable means Valve found the game functional on Deck with caveats. Steam’s compatibility detail can mention small text and situations where touch input, the virtual keyboard, or a community controller configuration may be needed. It is not the same as a Verified badge, a locked frame-rate promise, or native Linux support.

Start with the official controller layout and a default Proton selection unless Steam assigns another automatically. Test menu navigation, dialogue, Build Mode, fishing, and text entry separately because one successful movement test does not cover every interface. If a single action fails, inspect that binding before replacing the whole layout.

When reporting Deck performance, include LCD or OLED model, SteamOS version, Proton version, resolution, cap, power limit if changed, and the area or activity. A result from Valve’s recorded test build is a snapshot, not proof that every later public build behaves identically.

Diagnose controller behavior by layer

Steam lists Full Controller Support, so begin by confirming that Steam detects the device, the expected layout is active, and Moonfrost shows the intended prompt set. Disconnect duplicate virtual or physical controllers. Test a menu action, movement, and one gameplay action.

For fishing, distinguish cast, hook, steering, and tug rather than saying “the controller does not work.” For Build Mode, distinguish selection, placement, rotation, movement, and deletion. If keyboard and mouse works while one controller action fails, capture the controller model and binding. If both inputs fail at the same task state, the problem may be progression or UI state rather than the device.

Stop sync decisions and back up both visible copies

Protect saves and understand Demo transfer

Steam Cloud is enabled for the base game, but a cloud feature does not make every conflict safe to resolve automatically. When Steam presents a local-versus-cloud choice, stop and compare timestamps. Back up available copies before choosing. Do not guess a universal save path without confirming the current Windows account or Deck compatdata context.

The updated October 12 Demo can carry progress into Early Access. Older Demo saves are incompatible with that updated Demo and require a restart according to the official October 11 announcement. A missing transfer may therefore be a Demo-generation issue rather than general Steam Cloud failure. Identify AppID 4684100 and the date of the Demo session before moving files.

Report issues with reproducible scope

Include AppID 2561630, public branch, date, operating system, hardware, input device, display settings, current area, active task, and exact steps. Attach logs only through a trusted developer-requested path and remove personal identifiers. State whether the issue occurs on a fresh launch, after a save load, and with default settings.

The launch announcement directs feedback and bug reports to Steam Discussions or the official Discord. Search for a current developer-authored update before applying a community workaround. For exact official PC specifications, use System Requirements. For product changes, use Updates.
